Ethiopia has been selected by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to give a bachelor degree program in nuclear engineering to African member countries.
Ministry of Innovation and Technology, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Chinese government, Tsingua University and Addis Ababa Science and Technology University (AASTU) have reached an agreement to give a bachelor's degree program in Ethiopia for domestic and African member countries.
The agreement is aimed at opening a Bachelor's degree program in Nuclear Science and Technology in Ethiopia, expanding nuclear science and research in Ethiopia, and providing Ethiopian engineers in the field and making it a center of education and training for African member countries, creating capacity in Industry, Health, Agriculture, Environmental Science, Mining, Manufacturing and other sectors to ensure beneficiaries.
The minister of innovation and technology H.E Dr. Belete Molla has said that creating competent citizens through nuclear science and technology has a crucial role to demonstrate the economic development of our country.
The minister who said Ethiopia is the gateway to Africa said that Ethiopia is the first degree program of nuclear science and technology in Ethiopia to be given to African IAEA member countries, many negotiations have been made and its capacity to handle it is under consideration.
They said our country is working on the development of the nuclear science and technology sector for peaceful coexistence and economic development by working on manpower development and negotiating with our policies and working on the field for the development of the country's economy.
International Atomic Energy Agency vice director general Hua Liu stated in his series of discussions with the minister that being given a bachelor degree program in nuclear science and technology to African member countries in Ethiopia has a major role in developing the economy.
It has been reached to an agreement that laboratories and necessary materials to give a bachelor degree program in Nuclear Science and Technology in Ethiopia will be supported by the International Atomic Energy Agency and the Chinese government.
Addis Ababa University of Science and Technology and China Tsinghua University will work together to give the first degree program in the field, up to 10 Ethiopians will be trained for 6 months in China Tsinghwa University and give a first degree program in African IAEA member countries.
Finally, a joint direction has been taken to sign a three trilateral agreement between the Ministry of Innovation and Technology, International Atomic Energy Agency and the Chinese government.
