Complete macro economy reform is getting many benefits in all spheres. Dr. Belete Molla
The Ministry of Planning and Development, Ethiopian Statistics Service, Policy Research Institute, and Ethiopian Environmental Protection Authority held a joint discussion on the implementation of the nine-month plan for the 2017 Ethiopian fiscal year.
At the opening of the forum, the Minister of Innovation and Technology, His Excellency Dr. Belete Molla Getahun , stated that this discussion is a continuation of high-level cabinet engagements and is specifically organized to gather insights and feedback from employees to help shape future directions.
Dr. Belete emphasized that the government’s ongoing comprehensive macroeconomic reforms are yielding significant results across various sectors. He highlighted the strides made in developing a digital economy, noting that these efforts have had a positive impact on the country’s economic growth.
Ethiopia’s reform efforts—particularly in building a digital economy—have elevated the country's standing in global digital transformation rankings.
Dr. Belete further explained that the impact of macroeconomic reforms can be clearly seen in several indicators: inflation rates are stabilizing, the foreign currency market is more balanced, the country’s reserve stock is increasing, the government is no longer relying on direct advances from the National Bank, and tax collection capacity is improving.
The State Minister of Planning and Development, Mr. Bereket Fisehatsion, presented key insights on Ethiopia’s position in the global economy, the outcomes and trends of macroeconomic reforms, progress in infrastructure development, sustainable development goals, social inclusion, and national sovereignty. He also discussed efforts in peacebuilding, diplomacy, and international cooperation.
The state Minister clarified his role not only as a minister but also as a facilitator for inter-institutional performance discussions. He briefed participants on his office’s work and called on institutions to reflect on their sectoral performance reports. He emphasized the importance of addressing both national-level and sector-specific issues that require immediate attention.
