The 2026 African Science, Technology and Innovation Week has ended in a grand manner.

The 2026 African Science, Technology and Innovation Week that has been held in Ethiopia and has been reflected on the achievements that can accelerate the progress of the continent. It has been a great platform to bring together continental policy makers, development partners, private sector leaders and young innovators under one umbrella and look for the next direction of cooperation.

H.E state Minister  Dr.Bayissa Nedada for research and Innovation of Ministry of of Innovation and Technology   made his closing speech emphasized that the agenda is a call for change that enables the continent to play a leading role in the global knowledge-led economy, Africa should build an integrated system that transforms research output into productivity and dignified job opportunities.

Africa is rich in natural resources but this huge potential can only be transformed into a real power when supported by globally competitive education, strong research institutes, modern digital infrastructure and a sustainable source of finance, says the state Minister.  Investing in sectors such as artificial intelligence and biotechnology is crucial for the sovereignty and sustainability of the continent. They made it happen.

African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD) CEO Mrs. Nardos Bekele-Thomas has emphasized that innovation is beyond technological breakthroughs and creating a strong continental partnership, our focus should be on indigenous solutions and strategic investments.

Among the young inventors who have received a lot of recognition on the stage, the 17-year-old Ethiopian Sheik Asrat has presented her amazing work called "Vibrio AI Cholera" that can predict the Cholera epidemic with artificial intelligence (AI), she has shown to the international community that the African youth are leaders who can solve the continental problems.

Finally, the vice president of the Gambia, Honorable Mohammed B. S. In this forum that was successfully concluded with the presence of Jallow and the former Tanzanian President H.E. Jakaya Kikwete, there is a joint call for the continent to strengthen the local research and development fund and support scientists to ensure technology aided development on the continent.
