H.E. Minister Frehiwot Tamru Directs Intellectual Property Authority to Go Beyond Registration, Encourage Innovation, and Transform Creativity into Economic Value

During her visit to the Ethiopian Intellectual Property Authority, H.E. Frehiwot Tamru, Minister of Innovation and Technology, emphasized that the Authority must look beyond registration to actively support the transformation of creativity, inventive breakthroughs, and research findings into practical solutions, economic value, and public benefit.

The Minister directed the strengthening of partnerships among innovators, universities, industry, investors, and financial institutions; the development of legal frameworks enabling innovation financing; the end-to-end digital delivery of services; and the establishment of robust legal safeguards and protection for Ethiopian brands. She also stressed the need to nurture citizens' creative capacity and independent innovative mindset while preparing for the Artificial Intelligence (AI) era.

The Minister underscored that, alongside effective registration and rights protection, ultimate success must be measured by innovations deployed into practice, productivity gains achieved, and viable employment opportunities created.
