When the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference will be held in Shanghai, China, a delegation representing Ethiopia led by the Minister of Innovation and Technology Honorable Minister Dr. Belete Mola has participated in the conference. The president of the People's Republic of China, His Excellency Xi Jinping, who opened the conference with a speech, said "The development of artificial intelligence should be spent on development without affecting the security of any country and it should be spent on the prosperity and development of mankind. China will work hard to achieve this."

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterrez, who was present at the opening meeting, said "in the process of using artificial intelligence for development, common prosperity and security should be given priority above all.

World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization -- WAICO has been signed in 29 countries including Ethiopia at this conference. His excellency minister Dr. Belete Mola has signed the establishment agreement on behalf of Ethiopia. The honorable minister who made a speech at the meeting of the inauguration explained that Ethiopia has started to realize the importance of artificial intelligence for the country's development and security by establishing the leading artificial intelligence institute in Africa and implementing the artificial intelligence policy.

The minister also confirmed that Ethiopia is ready to learn from others and share its experience and work in cooperation. He said that he believes that the organization that is now established and involving many countries will contribute to a responsible and fair international development of artificial intelligence. He thanked China for the efforts that it is doing to establish this institution and to expand its technology to Ethiopia and to develop the developing countries.

President Xi Jin Ping talking about the established institution, he said "it is the first UN governmental institution to work on artificial intelligence development and the institution will lay the foundation for global artificial intelligence administration and joint development. The President has announced that China will provide 5000 trainings in the next 5 years, develop open source models in cooperation with countries, participate in integrated investments in artificial intelligence infrastructure, support integrated application and service development, and generally open an artificial intelligence cooperation center to share and work together its knowledge in the field.

Leaders of countries, senior officials, scientists of the field, and international organizations have attended the conference.
