Ethiopia and Algeria Hold Talks to Collaborate on Research, Development, and Startups
The Ministry of Innovation and Technology of Ethiopia and Algeria’s Ministry of Knowledge Economy, Startups and Micro-Enterprises have held discussions on strengthening cooperation in the areas of research, development, and startups.
H.E Minister Dr. Belete Molla Getahun, Ministry of Innovation and Technology, , stated that Ethiopia is focusing on building a strong innovation ecosystem to harness research, development, and startup initiatives for national economic growth and sustainable development. He noted that the country is making steady progress in this regard.
The Minister further emphasized that Ethiopia is giving significant priority to the technology sector with the ambition of becoming a model for Africa. He highlighted the successful implementation of the Digital Ethiopia 2025 Strategy and ongoing efforts to effectively realize the Digital Ethiopia 2030 Strategy, aiming to enhance the country’s global competitiveness.
Dr. Belete also underlined Ethiopia’s readiness to work closely with experienced partner countries such as Algeria to accelerate technological advancement and strengthen its position in the global arena.
H.E Noureddine Ouadah, Algeria’s Minister of Knowledge Economy, Startups and Micro-Enterprises, expressed his country’s strong interest in developing a joint framework with Ethiopia to advance research, development, and the startup ecosystem. He stressed Algeria’s commitment to collaborating on ecosystem building initiatives.
Minister Noureddine noted Ethiopia’s significant potential in the sector and recalled Ethiopia’s active participation in a previous startup conference organized by Algeria. He also pointed out that, given Ethiopia’s experience in hosting continental conferences, the country is well-positioned to organize future startup forums.
Concluding their discussions, the two sides agreed to work jointly in the sector and to promptly operationalize the agreement by appointing coordinating committees from both countries to oversee its implementation.
Ethiopia and Algeria have agreed to work together in research, development and startup sectors.
