The Ministry of Innovation and Technology, with support from the World Bank, inaugurated 24 smart communication rooms built in all regional capitals, two city administrations, and selected federal institutions today through a virtual ceremony.
The Chairman of the Standing Committee on Human Resources Development, Employment and Technology Affairs of the House of People’s Representatives, Honorable Dr. Negre Lencho, who attended the inauguration ceremony, said that the smart communication rooms built are crucial in building the digital economy and making decisions on national issues.
He also said that such infrastructures will help to expand experiences in health, education, agriculture and other sectors and to easily implement new knowledge.
Minister of Innovation and Technology, Dr. Belete Molla, noted that the smart communication rooms are part of the Digital Ethiopia 2025 Strategy, and said that providing the necessary infrastructure for government institutions to use digital technology in an appropriate manner is part of the strategy.
They also explained that these communication rooms, which were built to enable government institutions to fulfill their expected roles in an efficient manner in an effort to grow Ethiopia's digital economy to the desired level, are equipped with complete modern facilities and various communication technologies.
The aim of the smart communication rooms is to facilitate work relationships within and between institutions; create a comfortable working environment, and contribute to work efficiency and good governance.
