In African EGAD countries, a conference for strengthening internet infrastructure and control frameworks is being held in Addis Ababa.

Ministry of Innovation and Technology in collaboration with Internet Society (Wingu Africa) and Wingu Africa (Wingu Africa ) is holding a 3-day internet development conference to lay the foundation of internet ethics in African EGAD countries.

Internet development conference (IDC) 2025 aims to strengthen internet infrastructure and control frameworks in African EGAD countries.

Minister of Innovation and Technology Dr. Belete Mola said Ethiopia is working with determination to build a strong and comprehensive digital economy that will empower all citizens and enable our country to be the forefront of African digital revolution.

The minister said that this event is a demonstration of the digital landscape that exists in Ethiopia and the wider Egad region. By leading our Digital Ethiopia 2025 strategy, Ethiopia's digital transformation is making amazing progress.

Cybersecurity, data protection and digital knowledge should be prioritized to ensure that our future is secure and fair.

The minister who mentioned that Ethiopia has made a significant milestone in expanding its telecom infrastructure, the 4G coverage has reached 34.8%, the launch of 5G services in 14 cities, the number of mobile users has reached 80.5 million, and the number of mobile broadband users has exceeded 45 million are signs of changes in building the country's digital economy.

According to digital applications, Telebeer has produced more than 51.54 million users, it shows the power of digital innovation to lead financial inclusion and transform Ethiopian transactions.

During the event, the director general of the Ethiopian communication authority Engineer Balcha Reba said the internet development conference will lay the foundation for a stronger, more integrated internet culture that includes countries like Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Somalia, South Sudan and Djibouti.

Digital Ethiopia 2030 is not only a government initiative but all stakeholders - private sector, civil society, academies and international partners - are called to help shape this vision and build a truly inclusive and prosperous unified future Ethiopia.
